Underwater Concrete Repairs
Inspection and Repair of Intake Structures & Gate Sealing
Glenn Underwater Services, Inc. (GUS) performed a detailed inspection and repairs to the two intake slide gates, 36” intake sluice gate and the 36” and 48” discharge sluice gates at a hydroelectric facility in Indiana. The purpose of this inspection was to document the condition of the gates, perform limited maintenance, and make recommendations for their continued safe operation. All three sluice gates are actuated by a manual screw stem operator and the four slide gates are actuated by utilizing a chain fall. Prior to the initial diving operation performed by Glenn Underwater Services, Inc. s Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) deployed first to identify unknown areas where differential pressures (leakage) may be present and would pose a threat to divers; determine the general condition of the gates – enabling better defined repair procedures and materials to be employed once the dive crew is onsite (divers may be required to inspect the inside sealing surfaces of the intake gate; & document any debris that may have accumulated on the intake floor that would prevent a successful diving operation thus eliminating the cost of the dive crew on standby and possible remobilization.
