Underwater Inspections

Glenn Underwater Services provides a broad range of underwater inspection and data collection services, utilizing a variety of sophisticated technologies to record images and data.

Inspections conducted by Glenn Underwater Services are programmed and performed under strict controls that ensure accurate and repeatable data. Systems standard with visual data collection includes, high-resolution color and low visibility black and white video, still and digital photography, acoustical positioning and mapping. Inspection data is recorded on DVD, VHS, digital or a variety of computer-based formats.

Glenn Underwater Services will provide a very non-traditional high tech video recorder to document all underwater inspections. Video observations will be recorded on a computer based high resolution digital video recorder. It will record images at a resolution of 720 lines, at full speed 30 frames per second with zero latency. It incorporates a 1 GHz host processor board with Wavelet compression capability. This will allow all images to be downloaded and viewed on a computer for viewing or annotation and also for emailing of video clips. High quality still images can also be obtained from the video recordings. This enhanced detail will be very beneficial during analysis and evaluation of potential defects during post process and during future inspections.

Typical video inspections produce hours of raw video tape, observer logs, and readouts from associated instruments and sensors. Glenn Underwater Services data collection system will consolidate logs, instrument readings, video images, and more into a single database. Defects will be numbered and their Images stored as digital computer file that will be linked with all other inspection data. Historical data and video images can then be quickly recalled for comparison with the current conditions.

In addition to the visual inspection technology Glenn Underwater Services also utilizes exact positioning systems to aid in the location and mapping of cracks, spalls, and other defects in submerged concrete and steel structures. Information obtained using this apparatus is critical in aiding structural assessment and for long-term defect or repair monitoring.
